Apple + Nike

Now this is nifty. I'm not sure why, but it definitely has a high geek factor.

It seems Apple and Nike have teamed up for a project they've dubbed Nike+iPod. This new system (not yet available), will allow a sensor within a runner's shoe to communicate with an iPod carried elsewhere on the body. It appears that a dock connector is required, so the shuffle won't work.

While running, the iPod would record information about the exercise session, and give audio feedback to the user about how distance traveled, pacing, and other information. Then, the data can be synced back with the computer, where desktop software can store, chart statistical data over time, and connect with other users.

Pretty nifty!
