Beatles to sell songs online -- finally.

FOXNews.com reports that though they have shunned online download music sales so far, The Beatles is remastering their catalog in preparation for a move into the online market.

This is not a surprise. Nor should anyone be surprised if the Beatles refuse to take advantage of sales that the largest online store--iTunes--has to offer. Apple Computer and Apple Corps, the Beatles' label, recently made closing arguments in a trademark suit in which the Apple Corps asserts Apple Computer should not be using its apple logo in conjunction with music sales. A decision in the case is expected after Easter.

Having said that, it would be a great victory for both companies if they can settle the dispute amicably and include the Beatles' repertoire in iTMS.

Come on, people. There's nothing you can do that can't be done. All you need is love.

Nevermind. ABC will stream. Apple is safe.

According to ABC's press release, the episodes that they will be offering online the day after they air (see previous post) will be streaming Flash video, not downloads. So, they will be able to program them such that skipping commercials is impossible, and you will not be able to use them in your iPod. You will be able to watch them only on your computer.

Apple's iTMS is safe for now.

ABC to offer free TV show downloads

CNN reports that the first network to offer TV programs for sale through the iTunes Music Store, ABC, will soon offer their programs for free.

Starting next month, popular programs such as "Desparate Housewives" and "Lost", which currently have commercial-free versions available through the iTunes Music Store for $1.99 per episode, will be available through ABC's website for free the day after the episode airs. The programs will have commercials.

So, it looks like the iTMS price will get you not the program, but the absence of commercials, and the convenience of shopping in one place.

I predict the price of episodes will fall to $1.49.
