Microsoft to make new iPod competitor?

Businessweek.com is reporting that Microsoft is considering making their own portable media player. The player would most likely leverage the Xbox brand.

Wow. And people said Apple was late to the party when they introduced the iPod in 2001.

Disney buys Pixar; New Disney content in iTMS

Disney in iTMSIn a move that will surely bring a new crop of GOOD Disney-branded animated films, Disney has purchased Pixar for $7.2 billion. (That's a about double the gross revenue of Pixar throughout its history.) Good thing too; I cringed at the thought of Disney trying to do Toy Story 3 without Pixar's help.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has also headed up Pixar, which he bought from George Lucas back in the day for $10 million.

Coincidentally, the iTunes Music Store has added several classic Disney shorts to their video lineup. Perhaps more substantial Disney content will be coming to iTMS now that Steve Jobs and Mickey are getting along.

Apple makes iTunes MiniStore opt-in

Following two weeks of controversy following the debut of the iTunes MiniStore, Apple has addressed concerns of privacy advocates by making the feature opt-in.

As you browse your personal music collection in iTunes, the MiniStore displays related items for purchase. Though Apple asserted that no personal information was being retained, some expressed concern that Apple could use the information collected (which is necessary in order to display related items) for other purposes. The primary criticism was that the feature is on by default. Apple has reversed that; now users must turn it on to use the feature.
