The Leader Rains on FreeiPodGuy's Parade

Silicon.com reports that Apple CEO Steve Jobs, giving an interview at Apple Expo in Paris, downplayed the liklihood that we'll see iPods with wireless headphones (something I've been drooling over), radio, and video. In all cases, the reason is that Jobs is unconvinced that such features are in demand. Fortunately, all of these features are available through third-party add-ons. (Even video playback is available for some models using the iPodLinux Project's Video Player for iPod users of the extra-geeky variety.)

Though these features are enticing, I do admire Apple's "less is more" philosophy.

Interestingly, Jobs also questioned the viability of song downloads directly to mobile iTunes phones. Though this feature is offered by other music playing phones, tracks cost 2-3 times as much as desktop downloads. Jobs: "...let's think about this: you buy songs over the air for 3 euros a piece and then have to sync it to your PC or you buy them on your PC for less than 1 euro a piece and then sync it to your phone." I've always wondered about this myself. There's no song or album that so desirable that I'll pay triple just so I don't have to wait until I get home.

Jobs has a good history of knowing his audience; it may be that the video iPod clamoring is from a vocal few.
